A Course in Miracles (ACIM) can provide a very gentle way to advance towards God. It only seems that was of course, as we're told that there is no journey back to where we are already. <smile>
Nevertheless, we seem to be here in a body and in a world full of troubles, so ACIM takes us where we think we are so we can learn to see differently. Here in lesson 163 of the Workbook, we are given a beautiful prayer to help us think in the way ACIM directs us so we can live from a place of love rather than fear.
We are Your messengers,
and we would look upon the glorious reflection of Your Love,
which shines in everything.
We live and move in You alone (1) .
We are not separate from Your eternal life.
There is no death, for death is not Your Will.
And we abide where You have placed us,
in the life we share with You and all living things,
to be like You (2) and part of You forever.
We accept Your thoughts as ours, and our will is one with Yours eternally.
Amen
(1) "We live and move in You alone ..." The Apostle Paul understood the Oneness of God & our unity with Him, and spoke to the Athenians of their "Unknown God" who actually was their Creator. He describes God to them saying: "... in Him we live, and move, and have our being" -Acts 17:28
(2) "to be like You..." Here, the purpose of life is given as "to be like God" i.e. to be perfect, as God is perfect: limitless in His patience, full of joy and love for all...
The first section is is a follow up on the ACIM Theme that we see what we are looking for. The natural way here in the physical world is to look for faults --faults in others so we can feel better. The prayer is a gentle way of reminding us to ask ourselves what it is that we are seeking. By watching our ego hidden purposes, we can uncover the hidden "sins" of the ego, and let them go. It's also a request to change our purpose here. We are asked to see only the good people do.
